Yellow Perch

Wherever the yellow perch is found, it provides hours of fun and pounds of delicious food for fishermen of all types in all seasons of the year.
Yellow perch are not renowned for their fighting qualities with sport and game fisherman.
The yellow perch usually spawn in April and May at depths up to 10 feet when the water temperature reaches 45 to 52 degrees F. Spawning usually occurs at night over weeds, brush or gravel areas. Depending on their size, yellow perch deposits 3,000 to 40,000 eggs in gelatinous strings 2 to 7 feet long. They remain attached after deposition. Under good conditions, 1/4 to 1/2 of the eggs hatch within 8 to 21 days. Eggs and young receive no care from the parents.
Yellow perch feed on a variety of organisms, small crayfish and other smaller fish. Growth of the yellow perch is variable depending on the pond/lake's natural food chain. Few yellow perch exceed a length of 12 inches or a weight of 1 pound. The world record for yellow perch is just over 4 pounds.
The yellow perch provides good forage for most predator fish, especially walleye.
Stunting, as a result of overpopulation, commonly occurs. Because of this tendency to overpopulate in ponds/small lakes, the yellow perch is not generally recommended for stocking unless the primary purpose is for forage for predator fish.
We sell several sizes of yellow perch in early Spring or late Spring. Contact us for availability and prices on this and other fish species.
