Walleye

The walleye is the largest member of the perch family. Its size, sporting qualities and great taste rank the walleye as one of the most sought after species of fish in North America.
The primary diet of walleye fingerlings is other fish. Though spending most of the time in deeper water, at night walleye move to the shore to feed on small fish.
Stocking walleye in small lakes (40 acres or less) and ponds has been tried, but usually failed to provide good fishing without extra management efforts.
Walleye compete with largemouth bass for food and space. Periodic stocking of additional fathead minnows or other forage fish may be necessary to sustain good growth.
Walleye are unlikely to spawn in small lakes/ponds. Therefore, in order to maintain a fishable population, periodic restocking of 6-8" or 8-10" walleye is required.
If your stocking objective includes walleye for a new or renovated pond/lake, substitute recommended numbers of bass with walleye one for one. Stocked walleye should be approximately the same size as the bass.
If stocking established impoundments with walleye, we suggest 5 to 10 walleye per surface acre, with non-vulnerable sized fish, usually 8-10".
